Techno Tips & Tricks 02 - Parallel Compression

Adding punch to your mix with parallel compression

Optoproductions, Mixing Engineer on SoundBetter

Parallel compression is the perfect way to add punch to your mix. By using compression as a send effect you can use heavy amounts of compression to bring up all the little details of a track without ruining dynamic range. By adding an EQ after the compressor you can shape the sound even further. This technique is originally called New-York compression and works with everything from drums and bass to piano and vocals.

Check out the video above to learn more about parallel compression and how I use it in a Techno track.
